ONE DOWN

March 7, 2008, Ironwood

The long a waited Ironwood Wal-mart finally became a reality today.

By 7:30 a.m. the parking lot began to fill up. Inside shoppers were gathered near the store entrance to hear opening day speeches, watch the veteran's color guard present the flag while the Ironwood's  "Accent"  sang the Star Spangled Banner.

The Gogebic Sheriff's Deputy was on hand to assure safe driving through the "uncontrolled" intersection of U.S. 2 and County Club Road. MDOT made it clear to Ironwood to Mike Lahti, Mike Prusi and Bruce Noren that they would definitely install a traffic control device at the intersection, just as soon as enough people were killed or injured. Lucky for the citizens of Ashland their D.O.T. cares more about their safety than MDOT cares about the citizens of Gogebic County.

WLUCTV sent a reporter all the way from Marquette to cover the opening of the Super-Center.

Meanwhile, the Daily Globe sent their cub reporter to cover the event and make sure that Ironwood city officials showed proper flag etiquette.
