Final Four Square Off In H.S. Bowl |
Saturday April 12, 2008
The original 50 high school teams competing in the High
School Bowl were pared down to the two teams that will
compete in next weeks Cerebral Championship.
In the first match of the semi-finals the Houghton Gremlins
defeated the Blue Devils of Sault Ste Marie, 445 to 90. The
two teams were each victorious two weeks ago when the Blue
Devils got past the Red Devils of Ironwood, 295-170 and the
Gremlins of Houghton defeated the Knights of Norway 380 to
125.
What well might be the toughest match up of the season came
in the second competition of the evening when the Kingsford
Flivvers took on the Negaunee Miners. Last weekend Negaunee
defeated Manistique 330 to 200, while Kingsford got passed
Hancock 310 to 215.
The two super teams performed as expected in an extremely
close competition that was decided in the final moments of
the game. With just 5 minutes to go the score was Negaunee
215, Kingsford 210. The Gremlins stretched their lead to 275
- 210 with just two minutes remaining in the match. The
Flivvers countered scoring 20 more points before the clock
ran out of time. Negaunee had outlasted Kingsford 275-230.
