The thirty-second year of High School Bowl came to an exciting
conclusion Saturday evening when the Gremlins of Houghton met
the Miners of Negaunee. After all the questions were asked and
all the answers were given the clock ran out on the Negaunee
Miners. The Gremlins of Houghton emerged as the 2008 High
School Bowl Champions, their seventh HSB Championship.
Houghton was led by Team Captain Kavi Pandey. Team members of
the team include Emily Van Dam, Victor Pesola and Robert
Suits. The Gremlins were coached by Bill Martel. Houghton
defeated Pickford in round two after receiving a bye in round
one. The Gremlins went on to beat Westwood in round three.
Houghton won their game against Norway in the quarter-finals
and defeated Sault Ste. Marie in the semi-final match, played
last week. |

The Miners were coached by Connie Heinlein. The team included
team captain Jan Parkkonen, Dan Johnson and identical twins
Dave and Dan Ellis. Negaunee defeated 2007 HSB Champ Gladstone
in round one. The Miners defeated St Ignace in round two and
Calumet in round three. Negaunee bested Manistique in the
quarter-finals and Kingsford in the semi-finals. The miners
