Ironwood Native to receive first historic restoration award

Schandein Mansion, 24th St.and Grand Ave. c. 1890.

It is appropriate that the evening will also feature a special presentation - the Society's first Historical Preservation Award. Jody Michael Armata, owner of NorthShore Funeral Services will be honored for the renovation and restoration of the building on the comer of Menio Blvd. and Oakland Ave.

With the continuing changes in the Village and our desire to recognize and preserve the historic integrity of our heritage, we hope this award will become an annual event. In conjunction with the award, a public tour of the building is planned for August 23, 2008

Sponsored by the Shorewood Historical Society, the tour is open to the public and will provide a rare opportunity to see this building which has been restored to its original grandeur. Built in 1931, the Romanesque style building was intended to resemble a large residence.

As recipient of the Society's first Historic Preservation Award, owner Jody Michael Armata is gradously opening his first floor business and second floor home for this tour.Among the many features on display will be the original Art Deco cabinetry in the kitchen, a 1937 rare Steinway grand player piano and a portrait of one of Milwaukee's founding fathers.
