Northern Lights Quilting Guild
Host 2008 Quilt Show

IRONWOOD - September 20, 2008

Northern Lights Quilting Guild held its Bi-Annual Quilt show today in the Ironwood Memorial Building. We were told prior to the show that the Memorial Building was great venue for the show, and it certainly was so. There were a great many quilts on display. Some quilts were displayed from the gallery where they were harmoniously joined by the beautiful stained glass windows in the building .

The event was well received and there were many spectators admiring the amazing quilts on display. At first I was surprised at the number and quality of the entries and then I realized that great quilting usually emanates from heartland communities such as ours. We tried our best to capture the great craftsmanship and artistry in these quilts, however, photos will not do these fine quilts justice. If, you missed the the show this year make sure to see it in 2010.

Raffles were in abundance with hourly raffles as well as the show 2008 Show Raffle a quilt named "Finally Fall" by Susan Dissmore. The show not only displayed quilts, but also had food booths and fabric vendors from as far away as Rhinelander and Ewen.

Visitors were welcomed by the great smile of Wakefield's Librarian Denise Engel. It was at the Wakefield Library where we first learned about today's show. At the time Donna Brown was giving a "Toothbrush Rug" demonstration.

Carnegie Librarian, Elaine Erickson spells Sue and Barb at the raffle table which was a busy place all day.
Sue showed us the quilt pictured above. It is an exceptional Quilt that was hand-sewn, hand-quilted and hand cross stitched. The hard work that went into the quilt was evident
The  table of quilts pictured above were made by Northern Lights Guild members and donated to Hospice patients and to the Salvation Army. Last Christmas children were able to pick out their own quilts from the more than 50 quilts donated by Guild members.  The quilters also donate quilts to disaster victims such as those who lose their homes to fire.
