Parmeter Exhibit Opens at Reflection Gallery
Hancock - September 15, 2009

The Reflection Gallery at the Jutila Center campus is currently exhibiting the photography of Brian Parmeter. The exhibit of these terrific photographs by local photographer Brian Parmeter opened August 28th, and it will run through September 23rd. So there’s enough time remaining to get a good look at Brian’s great work.

Parmeter received a bachelor of science in mass communications at St. Cloud (Minn.) State University. He studied digital media at St. Paul (Minn.) Technical College, and color photography printing (traditional silver-based technology) at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He also attended Michigan Technological University, where he currently instructs photography courses.

At the artist’s reception that was held September 3rd to mark the opening of this must see exhibit.

At the reception Brian spoke to a group of Finlandia art students and answered many of their questions. The artistic photographs were taken during the first quarter of this year.

At first look, these photos lead us to believe that they are photographs of clouds or great dessert sand dunes. But instead, these are photographs capturing the beauty of our version of the frozen Tundra. These great shots were all photographed from Eagle River north to the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Brian’s work is testimony to what he teaches. That we should not take our surroundings for granted, and that there are objects all around us just waiting to be discovered.

Brian Parmeter has 26 years experience in fine-art landscape photography, and professional experience in all formats of digital and film capture and location/studio lighting. He has worked extensively with corporate and higher education clients.

In his artist’s statement Brian states his connection with landscapes is that of respect, wonder, and amazement. While wandering to find a good shot, he says he feels as if he is “trespassing” in a majestic land, and his footprints taint the natural surrounding beauty – a beauty that he captures in both color or black and white. Brian used digital photography exclusively for this exhibit.
