Superintendent Search Moves Forward

Ironwood - January 12, 2010

The Ironwood School Board met in Special meeting last night. It was the school board’s first meeting of the new year. The meeting was not a quick one. Much of the time the board met in closed session for the purpose of reviewing two applications for School Superintendent. The search for Jim Rayner’s replacement could have both begun and ended last night with the board selecting one of the two inside applicants. That was not to be. After returning from "closed session" the board voted 4-3 to look elsewhere for a superintendent. In a carefully worded motion the board voted to "ask for the MASB for assistance in an applicant search".

The vote was strictly a union, non-union vote. The three union people on the board voted no to the resolution would take the job search outside of the district.

As interesting as that may have been to most, there was another motion approved last night that was yet more interesting to us. The board approved the hiring of person to command an in house suspension program. The job is part time and temporary and the compensation will be that of a substitute teacher. This item is surely a sign of the times. I can say that this situation would not have nor could have occurred when we were in school.

It seems as though when some kids are assigned to Saturday School Detention, they skip it. Hoping to be suspended so they can roam the streets all day rather than attend school. That rates a great big HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

In other action, the board voted to approve additional vacation time, without pay, to Linda Pissani.

Mrs. Passani will be allowed to use up her vacation time during the school year. Then, if needed, she will be allowed additional time off without pay during the summer.
