Bessemer - August 8, 2009 The Bessemer Boy Scout Troop 337
recently spent a week at Scout Camp Tesomas. The camp is located
just north of Rhinelander, WI. The boys were accompanied by
Scout Master Bruce Jendusina and Assistant Leaders Chuck McIntyre,
Bonnie McIntire and Ron Store.
While at camp the scouts were able to work on obtaining their
merit badges. Several f the boys had the opportunity to complete the
requirements for their mountain climbing badges. A 22 mph, quarter
mile slide down a guy wire was certainly a courage testing event.
Scout director Bonnie McIntire, took the plunge without any
hesitation at all.
The scouts went to
classes on leather crafting and sailing as well as several other
classes.
The sailing class shown in our photos, included capsizing and
righting the small sailing craft used by the boys.
It was parents day when we visited the scouts at their campsite
"Winnebago" and was also the day of the Order of the Arrow Ceremony.
The Camp also had a Chapel for the scouts to attend, which was
built by the KIWANAS.
Scout camp today is quite different today than it was 50 years
ago. Now, cell phones and cell towers have replaced the two tin cans
connected with a piece of string. Although the toys and equipment
have become more sophisticated the fun and the scouting experience
still remain the same. |
