Pasi Cats Pack Pavilion

Covington - August 19, 2009

The Pasi-Cats packed the Covington pavilion Tuesday night, in what was the finale of the "Music in the Pavilion Concert Series".

The Pasi Cats Quintet filled the Covington Pavilion. It was the largest crowd of the summer season. The Pasi Cats played to an all age audience, little kids as well as their grand-parents came to enjoy the music of this versitile and talented group. The Pasi members include Pasi Lautela, accordionist, Oren Tikkanen, playing mandolin, drummer, Mike LeBeau, guitarist Keith Rintala, and playing bass is Randy Wakim.

Singer Tanya Stanaway, making a guest performance, joined the group for a song.

All evening the dance floor in the outdoor pavilion was filled with adults and children alike. It certainly was a family affair, where moms and dads dance with their children and each other, the entire evening.

The season began July 14th, with a performance by The Country Drifters, who were followed by Whitewater which played on July 21st. The series also featured: Black Pearl, The Augustines, and Wil Kilpela. The great concert series concluded on high note with the Pasi Cats.

The Pasi Cats will also close out the season for the Keweenaw Star. Their performance Take II, take place Tuesday, September 1st.

Covington - a Cultural Center in Rural America

Covington has an active parks and recreational committee. While the committee doesn't have culture in its name it does promote cultural events all year. In addition to the concert series this rural community, as does Trout Creek, produces a wonderful annual art show. The art show is located on the grounds of the Historic Covington School on School Rd. The UP Made Artist Market is housed inside the old school house and features over 60 permanent Upper Peninsula artists. Juried art is featured out doors.

IronwoodInfo has visited this venue before when the parks and recreational committee sponsored Suomi Kutsuu (Finland Calling) dance. We will return again to cover more of their wonderful events.
