Area Finns Attend Fun Day

Ishpeming - September 21, 2009
The shown brightly Saturday as Finlanders from the local area traveled to Ishpeming Saturday to attend what is called the first "Finn Fun Day" . . Whether it will or not become annual event didn't detract from the fact that this was a truly a "fun day".

The event was sponsored by The League of Finnish-American Societies U.P. Chapter and Finlandia Foundation affiliate. The entire event was free to the public.

Several workshops were given during the day: Peter Olson, bird carver from the Copper Country was on hand giving a demonstration. Gus Hult gave a demonstration on how to play "Virsikantele (hymn harp). Kay Seppala teaching Finnish folk dances.

Tanya Stanaway gave a Finnish Language workshop. Not an easy feat for one workshop. As you know, it takes 42 letters to spell hello in Finnish!

Sandra Etelamaki, held a wokshop on how to make Pulla (cardamum bread) . 

Attendees also got to enjoy the vintage "A"'s that the  displayed by the Superior Model A's Car Club .

Finnish vocal artist Victor Klimenko and pianist Mary Hult entertained the crowd between workshops. Klemenko one of Finland's greatest exports  on tour in the U.P.

Lucky Wakefield residents will get enjoy the great singing voice from the very talented Klemenko. The concert is at All Saints Church in Wakefield and is schedulded to begin at 7:00pm
