Reflections Gallery Hosts Dual Exhibit

Hancock - December 8, 2009

Last Thursday the Finlandia Reflection Gallery was the scene of a dual exhibit opening. The exhibit for the young and talented students will run until January 11th.

A large audience was on hand at the reception for the two artists, Jessica Spear,  a junior-level Finlandia Studio Arts student and Skler Ross, a Graphic Design major in the Finlandia University International School of Art & Design.

Jessica Spear, a Junior at Finlandia presented  her large scale paintings which were quite impressive.
Jessica uses  mixed media for many of her beautiful paintings. Jessica is very involved in art. In addition to work at school, she also works at the Community Arts Center in Hancock.
Spear loves to use volumes of color in art, greens and purples predominate along with the artistic inclusion of textures.
Jessica states “My work is mostly about my love of color, line, and collage and how these work (or don’t work) together,” Spear explains. “Spontaneity plays a huge role in my art. Paint splashes and brush strokes are often the result of letting the paint do what it wants to do.”

Skyler Ross is the other Finlandia Junior featured at the Reflection Gallery.  Skyler's exceptional photography is on display for all to enjoy. Ross is a Graphic Design major at Finlandia's International School of Art and Design. Skyler's digital photography is very good and very impressive, He uses photoshop to enhance his work in varying degrees, depending on the photograph.
While some of his photos are quite altered digitally while others receive only  the slightest  enhancements to bring out the natural beauty of his subject.  He is a very talented artist who states that he hopes to capture the natural elements of everyday life ... take the ordinary and give them vitamins', something he does and does very well.
We look forward to seeing more of Jessica's and Skyler's work at future exhibits.
