A PLACE WHERE EAGLES DANCE

POW WOW 2008 at WATERSMEET

MEETING NEW FRIENDS

Pow Wow time is the Native American people’s way of meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old friendships and make new ones.
You may recall from our coverage of the Baraga Pow Wow, that one element of the pow-wow is to meet new friends. In the photo above, while their Regalia may look like they were designed together, Steve (above left) had never met Aaron (above right) until this pow wow.

The Fish Dance

The fish according to legend started  at Kashinna Falls at the Menominee River where tribes would go to spear fish. at the end of a long winter . The dance gives thanks to the creator for bringing them safely through the long hard winter.

The Fish Dance is a really great dance to watch and to participate in if you have strong knees.

The Swan Dance

The Swan Dance celebrates the end of a good summer and harvest, through the migration of the Swans.  This is another great dance that unfortunately is not performed very much any more. But not the case here at Watersmeet.

A Journey -Looking For Dad

Little Guy above wants to go see his dad. On this the first of several excursions he will not give up!
Crossing the arena in front of many many dancers Little Guy starts his journey.
" OK  I made it. Now where is he hiding?"
"Maybe if I stand up I can see further"
Look close he's still there checking out the terrain.
"I can make better time this way"
" Oh, I see him now" "Hey Dad I made it !"
"Ok take me home"
"Ok, Let's go find Mom"
