Old Victoria - August 18, 2008

This year's Old Victoria Days marked the 26th anniversary for the area's premiere Arts and Crafts show. The number of artists and craftsman increased to 27 this year a 30 percent increase!  By mid day there was a large number of shoppers and visitors to the the historic village setting.

In addition to the many high quality items for sale there was entertainment, food and great games and prizes for the kids. This is a must see art and craft show and if you missed this year make certain to put on your schedule for next year.

above: "Sandy's Baskets" - Sandy Soring  has a home based business in Copper City, Michigan.  This is Sandy's second year at Old Victoria Days.
Photo above: Martha Sohlden, working on "Amish Knitting"  In addition to her knitting Martha makes and sells great jams and jellies.  Martha is also in charge of he Tori  (outdoor)  Market in Hancock. The market is located at lower Montezuma park and is open Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. the market remains open until  October 4th.

Shellie is from Crystal Falls. Shellie does custom orders and also offers classes and supplies. Visit Shellies website

above "In Fine Figured Figured Woods" , by Randolph and Kenneth Cholette from Skanie. It's their 6th year at the show.  Amazing hand crafted wood work our photos just can't reproduce the beauty of this work.
above: beautiful oil paintings and water colors by "Ruth Morris" .. Ruth offers high-end paintings and also offers less costly crafts.  This Ruth's third time at Old Victoria after a 5-6 year absence. Ruth is a Mass City resident.
photos above: a large variety of hand crafted items from Theresa Palosaari. Theresa makes rugs, knitted goods jams and jellies and she even makes concrete items for the yard. (Rhubarb leaf concrete bird feeder above right) Teresa operates the "Country Craft Cabin"  on North Entry Road in Chassell.  Her cabin is open all week excluding Weds.  and Sun. from 10:00 am  to 5:00 pm.
above: Suyeon's crafts. A large variety of crafting from Suyeon's Craft Studio located across from the park in Lake Linden. In addition to the many hand crafted items for sale Suyeon also gives stitching classes.
Diane, Herb and Dawn.  Herb makes these very popular had-made stools. Herb also makes Amish furnature. The Spatz family traveled all the way from Boulder Junction to be in the craft fair.
above and below: Wooden Toy, Etc. hand-crafted wooden products by Steve and Judy Russell from Iron River Michigan.  They make maple trucks, trains, cars and other toys and puzzles. In addition they also make folding wooden tables. This was certainly one of the busiest booths at the show.
above visitors are wowed by FlipFlop, a female Barbershop Quartet from Grand Rapids, Michigan. These ladies are great and knoc your socks off! The group is a member of the the Great Lakes Region 3 Adelines International

above: Rowena Engstrom from Bruce Crossing and Joanne Cottenham from Trout Creek  were offering their hand made sewing, knits and felt products. This is Rowena's 4th year at Victoria Days
above: Les McBean operates the White Birch Apiary in Bruce Crossing. An expert Bee keeper, Les recently gave two bee keeping  seminars in conjunction with the County Extension Office. Les brought along his great Honey products.
Lots of food for sale and a great atmosphere to dine in among the trees in Historic Old Victoria.

above: "Field Sketches" by Diana Sullivan, artist. Diana creates her high end art in the field. This is Diana's first year at Victoria Days. Diana recently showed her work at the Eagle Harbor art show which had more than 50 exhibitors. Diana lives in Baraga.

It's hard to imagine a more appropriate musical ensample than "Wildflower" their soft folk sound goes hand in hand with the historic surroundings.
