Strassenfest
a Great Success! |
 |
IRONWOOD - September 12, 2008 |
What was billed as a German block party turned
out to be what hopefully can be called the first
annual "Ironwood Strassenfest" Tonight's
party thrown under Big Tent was this year's
biggest one night event.
The action began at 6:00 PM and by 6:30 PM
the tent was packed. Packed to the gunnels .
There were tables set up on two sides of the
dance floor and they were filled to capacity.
Standing room only! |
 |
Above the Strassenfest Brass, provided great
crowd pleasing music. The Band from Berlin had
the crowd dancing, singing and overall an fun
atmosphere. The group was to be a nine piece
brass band however, two members seem to be
missing. None-the-less, the music was exactly as
hoped for. |
|
 |
There was great beer from Ashland's North Shore micro
brewery served up by volunteer bar tender Tim Kolesar. |
 |
There was great eats prepared by more familiar
volunteers. The menu included Brats, German
Sausage, Hamburgers, and potato salad.
Occasionally the wind would shift and the smoke
filled the tent. |

 |
(above) There were moments when the audience
expected the band to segue into the classic
"Smoke Gets Into Your Eyes" |
 |
There was no need for "alarm" however, as
one of the many volunteers on hand was I.V.F.D.
Chief Ken Jacobson (above) although not seen but
on premises was another volunteer, newly
appointed I.V.F.D. Captain Barb Allen. |

above - Event organizer Scott Stevens flashes a
big smile and rightfully so. According to
Scott the event has been five months in the
making. The proceeds from this grand party will
go to one of Ironwood's great assets the
"Historic Ironwood Theatre" |
Scott's Smile must be contagious as smiles could
be found everywhere on audience faces. |

Let's hope that this event will return to
Ironwood next year and there's no need for
improving what was already perfect! |
