Mining To Return by 2013?

Ironwood Township - March 6, 2009

Nearly 70 people attended an informational meeting tonight at the GCC Linquist Center. The audience put aside their plans for Friday night in order hear first hand the status and plans for the proposed "Copperwood" mine project slated to open in Ironwood Township. The old mine sits near the border of Ironwood and Wakefield Townships.

above riight - Bill Williams, Orvana Vice President for Corporate Development faced a friendly and receptive audience for the second evening in a row. Last night Mr. Williams addressed the same questions from a similar but much larger audience in a meeting held in Wakefield.
Williams answered as many questions as he could considering the fact the initial borings and early are far from complete.
In September and October 2008, Orvana's wholly-owned subsidiary, Orvana Resources US Corp, entered into minerals leases covering 712 hectares (1,759 acres), now referred to as Copperwood, located in the Upper Peninsula (UP) of the State of Michigan some 30 kilometers southwest of the inactive White Pine mine where over 1,700,000 tonnes of copper and over 4,500,000 ounces of silver were produced between 1952 and 1996. Orvana has also acquired exclusive options in the general area of the current minerals leases to lease mineral rights on identical terms to the mineral leases for an additional 1,559 hectares (3,852 acres).

During November and December, 2008, Orvana began the base line studies for the Environmental Impact Assessment, which included the drilling, packer testing, and completion of 20 water monitor wells, and the installation of shallow water monitoring wells. In January, 2009, STS (AECOM) completed the first phase of surface and subsurface water sampling, which began the two-year long process of developing seasonal and long-term characterization of the site as required by the State of Michigan as part of the mine permit application process. Whereas 14 of the holes were completed in bedrock above the copper-bearing interval, six of the holes intersected the copper-bearing zone.
Orvana obtained core from 11 of the 42 holes drilled during the 1950s within T 49N, R46W, Section 1, part of the land covered by the Copperwood mineral leases, as reported in the September 10, 2008 Orvana press release. Six of these holes were considered to be acceptable for resampling and assaying as part of the validation of the historical assays. A total of 54 intervals from the remaining AQ-sized half core: within which the 1950s sampling tags were intact, were re-sampled. The comparative assay results are given in Table 1 below.

All the holes were drilled vertical into stratiform mineralization that dips approximately 10-15 degrees. Recoveries were 100%.

Bill Williams, Vice President of Corporate Development, said, "The results from our new drilling and the resampling of core from historical drilling confirm our belief that the results from the 1950s program are reliable. We are now even more confident of the thickness and grade of the mineralization defined previously by historical drilling."
Orvana has engaged AMEC E & C Services Inc. of Phoenix, Arizona to audit the core handling and sampling protocol, definitively assess whether the historical data is valid, aid in the design of the upcoming delineation drill program, and ultimately estimate mineral resources with the expectation of achieving measured and indicated confidence categories by year end.

The expectations are that the mining operation will be open by 2013 and may employ up to 200 people.
