Norrie - June 1, 2009 The Bank Club was the odds
on favorite in this year's OCF Relay For Life Jack-N-Jill softball
tournament. Having won the same tournament three years running
they were "the team" to beat. In what was definitely not a pitching
duel the Bank Club slugged it out in a very close game with the Pit
Stop at Jake Randa Memorial Field. This year the tourney would have
a new champion the Pit Stop team. The final score Pit Stop 23-22
over the reigning champs the Bank Club. Dillon Smith was
largely responsible for the upset with two homers. He also touched
all three bases and home plate in another at bat.
Wind and cool temps made it seem more like fall than May 30th.
The winds caused a lot of dust during the games, but seem to
have little effect on the play of the games.
In the Consolation Round the Coors Lite Team bested Dawns Never
Inn 14-8. Earlier in the Consolation Round Dawns Never Inn
defeated The Dawghouse 20-1 and Coors Lite defeated Rigoni's
7-5.
Each year the Ojibway Correctional Facility Employees sponsor the
Jack-N-Jill Tournament as a fundraiser for the Relay For Life.
The organizers for Saturday's tournament were Mary Lynn Veda and
Steve Lehto. The announcer and scorer for the tournament was
Christina Morzenti.
The Ojibway Correctional Facility Employees are hosting another
fundraiser in June. The proceeds from that event are used to
fund scholarships for area youth tat are entering the Law
enforcement field
