Ironwood Township - June 9, 2009 The 2009 Samson
and Lady Samson Basketball Clinic began yesterday at the Lindquist
Student Center on the campus of Gogebic Community College,. When
asked how long has the clinic been operating co-director Dennis
Mackey told us that this is the twenty third year that he has been
associated with the clinic and it was being operated before he came
on board.
The clinic is being conducted by G.C.C. Samson Coach Mackey and
his co-director Lady Samson Coach Stephanie Byrns, aided by former,
current, and future Samson & Lady Samson Players.
The G.C.C. Samson and Lady Samson Basketball Clinic seeks to
offer a sound foundation for beginners and a strong challenge for
advanced players. The coaches help participants become better
players and more disciplined athletes. The staff gives detailed
attention to individuals in ball handling, passing. dribbling,
defending, rebounding, and shooting. "Our coaches will develop an
awareness of each player's strengths and weaknesses and work with
him or her to 'become an 'improved player" says Mackey .
The clinic operates each year for four days and is offered to boys
and girls in the third through twelfth grades. In each of the four
days there are 3 on 3 or 5 on 5 games played along with daily
individual contests featuring ball handling and shooting, as well as
fundamental stations and drills. |
