Image Slideshow
Saturday was a a beautiful Northwood's summer day, filled with many community events, as is usual this time of year. The day couldn't have been any better for the 108 kids that showed up for this year's Bicycle Safety Day. It was an even sunnier day for the 30 kids who left the IPSD building with brand new bicycles.

Each year the members of the Ironwood Public Safety Department host the event intended to promote Bicycle Safety. When asked when the event originated, no one knew exactly, however, this very worthwhile endeavor goes back a long long way.

Safety officer, Matt Sterbenz, showed us the inspection card pictured above it dates back to1947. The safety card was issued to Eddie Rovelsy "age 4" the card is dated April 15, 1949

At yesterday's inspection, 108 kids registered and had their bikes inspected by Eric and John from the Hobby Wheel, one of the many sponsors of this years event. Each boy and girl that attended the bicycle safety class received a safety helmet, in addition to what they learned in the class.
