Regional Hospice
and
Gogebic Range Band Hold Dedication
Ironwood - June 24, 2009
Last night the
Regional Hospice along with The Gogebic Range Band held the
annual Memory Garden dedication, at Longyear Park in Ironwood.
The “Plant a Memory” Garden is one of three fundraisers Regional
Hospice holds each year. Flowers were purchased for $5.00 in honor
or memory of a loved one, friend or other significant person. Kathy
Maki and Alane Verbos, Hospice volunteers planted the flowers
surrounding the flag pole near the band shell.
The Dedication Service Began with the playing of the "Star
Spngled Banner" by the Gogebic Range Band. Afterward there
were brief statements by Nancy Pikka, RN Clinical Co-ordinator-Ironwood
and Scott Erickson, Ironwood city's manager.
Nancy Pikka then presented a Certificate of Appreciation to Tom
and Dorothy Erickson for their generous yearly support of the
Regional Hospice "Plant a Memory" Garden Fundraiser. Tom is 91 years
old. He gave a brief speech explaining why he was so supportive of
the Regional Hospice.
Following the speeches the Bale Sisters sang two songs.
The "Honorariums and Memorials" were then
read to the large
audience gathered on the lawn, by Nancy Pikka, Joanne Sauter and
Mary Oberto, Hospice volunteers.
The ceremony then continued by a Postlude Concert by the Gogebic
Range Band.
For the second time this season the Gogebic Range Band gave a
terrific concert in the park. The band played under the directorship
of Marie Eggeleston. Marie did a great job substituting for Larry
Gabka, who was unable to be at this concert. The band again played a
variety of numbers including some marches, some Cole Porter and some
Henri Mancini and several other numbers. Regardless of the genre'
being played the GRCB did an absolutely terrific job and pleasing
the audience throughout the evening. The Band will be playing again
in Wakefield, July 3rd at 7:00pm. Try not to miss that holiday
performance.
