Finlandia women’s softball team set to open 2011 season
as host of the 8th annual Superior Dome

– February 24, 2011: The Finlandia University
women’s softball team will open their 2011 season in
Marquette, Michigan at the 8th annual
Superior Dome Softball Tournament on the campus of
Northern Michigan University with a doubleheader on
Friday February 25th. The Lions play Hope College (MI.)
at 6:00 pm and Edgewood College (WI.) at 8:00 pm.
The three
day tournament hosted by Finlandia University features 9
of the Midwest’s top NCAA Division 3 softball programs.
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference will
be represented by powerhouses Oshkosh, Stevens Point,
and Superior. Perennial national title contender Simpson
College (IA.) will round out the field with Hope (MI.),
Dubuque (IA.), Concordia (WI.), Edgewood (WI.), and
Finlandia.
Weekend
passes will be available to adults for $10, and senior
citizens and children 11-18 years of age for $7. Kids
under 10 will be admitted for free all weekend. Daily
passes will be $6 for adults and $4 for senior citizens
and children 11-18. There will be 20 games total with
three on Friday, nine on Saturday, and eight on Sunday.
Hope and Edgewood open the tournament at 4:00 pm Friday
and games begin at 8:00 am sharp on both Saturday and
Sunday.
The Lions
have high hopes for the 2011 season as Coach Hendrickson
brought in one of his top recruiting classes as head of
the Finlandia women’s softball program. The Lions resume
play at 4:00 pm Saturday versus Concordia, and round out
the tournament with a triple-header on Sunday against
Dubuque (8:00 am), UW-Stevens Point (12:00 pm), and
UW-Superior (2:00 pm).
