GCC defeats Dakota College Lumberjacks 87-80

Following the victory of the Gogebic Community College women’s basketball team the Samson men’s team won their tournament game Saturday night when they defeated the Dakota College Lumberjacks in a very exciting game at the Lindquist center.

Four minutes into the game the Samsons held a 9 point lead over the Lumberjacks, 18-9. That lead would shrink to one point midway into the first period, when Gogebic would lead Dakota 24-23. The Lumberjacks would take the lead to the end of the first period, with the half-time score Dakota 43, Gogebic 40.

Five minutes into the second half the Lumberjacks would stretch their lead to 54-46.

The Samsons would come back to trail by one half ways through the second half. Four minutes later the Samsons would take the lead 72-71. With just 22 seconds remaining in the game Gogebic would hold a nine point lead, 86-77. When the final buzzer rang the Samsons would go to the locker room having defeated their opponents 87-80.
Number one, JJ Borseth was high scorer for the Samsons, scoring 31 points. Borseth was followed by number ten, Guard Tony LaPLant scoring 18points.

High scorer for the Lumberjacks was number 33 Adam Hunt with 24 points. Hunt scored 15 points from beyond the three point line.
As a team Dakota hit 13 three pointers, but only hit seven free throws in 17 attempts. Gogebic hit 29 of their 43 free throw attempts.
