The Ontonagon Senior Expo took place at the Ewen Trout
Creek School Wednesday. The Thirty Sixth Annual
Ontonagon County Senior Festival was organized and
produced by Joan Harris, Director of the Ontonagon
Commission on Aging. There were some concerns that the
weather would curtail attendance at this unique event.
That was not to be the case. Nearly 170 seniors were
served lunch at the event, indicating that the
attendance was nearing the 200 mark.
Pictured above winning the prize for the longest married
couple present at the festival were Frank and Dee Jezek
who have been married an amazing 62 years!
At the Expo, seniors meet local healthcare providers as
well as other entities that focus on senior care and
senior interests. There was free blood pressure checks,
blood sugar tests and bone density testing.
One particularly interesting item was DUMP - the
availability to discard unused meds in a safe manner.
The seniors who chose to stay for lunch received a great
lunch for just $3.75. The meal consisted of Sloppy Joes,
pork and beans, potato salad, fruit salad, a beverage
and a large array of desserts. Accompanying the meal was
live music performed by Ron Howard and Bob Lubbers.
OnTran provided bus service to the senior event.
