August Regular Meeting of the Gogebic Community College Board of Trustees
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP - August 31, 2011

Preliminary enrollment figures were given by Dean of Students Jeanne Graham. “As of today, it appears that our headcount is down four percent and our credit hours are down by 6.4% percent,” said Graham. “As we budgeted for a five percent decrease in both headcount and credit, this is right on target for our projections for the year.” As registration activity continues for the next several weeks, a final enrollment report will be given in October.

President Jim Lorenson announced that due to continued low enrollment in the Early Childhood Education program on the Ironwood campus, GCC would suspend the program for an interim period after this year on campus. The program, which is also offered at GCC’s Copper Country Center, will continue to be offered in that area and the program will be developed further because of the strong interest and higher enrollments.

In other action, the following bids were approved:
• For the 2011-12 Building Trades/Construction Technology projects:
--The foundation and slab concrete was awarded to Northern Lakes Concrete Inc. of Hurley.
--Misc. materials for the foundation were awarded to Forslund Building Supply of Ironwood.
--Masonry materials from Winger Concrete Products of Hazelhurst, WI.
--Excavating, Septic Field, and Driveway to Jake’s Landscaping and Excavating of Ironwood.
• Additional adjunct instructors for on- and off-campus for the first semester were approved.
• A Waiver and Consent form from the Gogebic County Treasurer on behalf of the College to strike delinquent taxes from the tax rolls that have been on for over five years was approved.
• The Board also authorized a contract with Marilyn Smidt, Grand Rapids, MI, for consulting services associated with the college’s work toward the National League for Nursing Accreditation of GCC’s nursing program.
