Preliminary enrollment figures were given by Dean of
Students Jeanne Graham. “As of today, it appears that
our headcount is down four percent and our credit hours
are down by 6.4% percent,” said Graham. “As we budgeted
for a five percent decrease in both headcount and
credit, this is right on target for our projections for
the year.” As registration activity continues for the
next several weeks, a final enrollment report will be
given in October.
President Jim Lorenson announced that due to continued
low enrollment in the Early Childhood Education program
on the Ironwood campus, GCC would suspend the program
for an interim period after this year on campus. The
program, which is also offered at GCC’s Copper Country
Center, will continue to be offered in that area and the
program will be developed further because of the strong
interest and higher enrollments.
In other action, the following bids were approved:
• For the 2011-12 Building Trades/Construction
Technology projects:
--The foundation and slab concrete was awarded to
Northern Lakes Concrete Inc. of Hurley.
--Misc. materials for the foundation were awarded to
Forslund Building Supply of Ironwood.
--Masonry materials from Winger Concrete Products of
Hazelhurst, WI.
--Excavating, Septic Field, and Driveway to Jake’s
Landscaping and Excavating of Ironwood.
• Additional adjunct instructors for on- and off-campus
for the first semester were approved.
• A Waiver and Consent form from the Gogebic County
Treasurer on behalf of the College to strike delinquent
taxes from the tax rolls that have been on for over five
years was approved.
• The Board also authorized a contract with Marilyn
Smidt, Grand Rapids, MI, for consulting services
associated with the college’s work toward the National
League for Nursing Accreditation of GCC’s nursing
program. |
