Mother Nature shone down on the “Car Show in a
Pumpkin Patch” again this year at the 33rd Annual
Bessemer Pumpkinfest on Saturday. Forty-five
vehicles registered for the show putting on a great
display on the old Bessemer Auto lot on the corner of US
2 and Sophie Street. According to Linda Gustafson,
car show chairman, “We had many first-time participants
this year. Great to
see!”
Over 250 people cast their ballots for the “People’s
Choice” trophies. First place went to a 1956
Chevrolet convertible owned by Jeff and Tracy Voegtline
from Florence, WI. This was their first time
coming to the Pumpkinfest.
Second place went to a 1957 Chevrolet Belair
owned by Gene and Joyce Ludtke from Eagle River, WI.
Best in Class and Outstanding in Class trophies,
sponsored by Stempihar BP of Bessemer, were awarded in
each of ten classes, with the voting on these being done
by the show participants themselves. Winners for
2011 were as follows, with Best in Class listed first
and Outstanding in Class listed second:
Class A – Antiques to 1949 – Tom and Sharon Ravelli,
Ironwood, 1931 Ford Model A Sport Coupe; Jerry and Carol
Pisani, Hurley, WI, 1929 Ford Model A 2-door.
Class B – Antiques, 1950-59 – Jeff and Tracy
Voegtline, Florence, WI, 1956 Chevrolet Convertible;
Willis and Judy Wisneski, Wausau, WI, 1951 Ford 2-door
Sedan.
Class C – Classic, 1960-64 – Dale Brookins, Ontonagon,
MI 1964 Ford Thunderbird; Chris Bergquist, Ironwood,
1962 Buick Invicta.
Class D – Classic, 1965-69 – Dick Brooks, Elmhurst,
IL, 1966 Pontiac GTO; Bob Richey, Tomahawk, WI, 1967
Ford GT.
Class E – Classic, 1970-79 – Keith and Barbara Palmer,
Glenview, IL, 1970 Chevrolet Corvette; Ryan Broeniman,
Mellen, WI, 1970 Ford Mustang Mach I, tied with Roger
Marincel, Ashland, WI, 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS.
Class F – 1980-89 – Marc and Karen Dean, Eagle

Class G – Street Rods to 1949 – Dennis and Diane
Nielsen, Sayner, WI 1939 Chevy Business Coupe; John

Class H – Street Machines 1950 to present – No

Class J – 1990-Present/Special Interest – Ed Balcomb,

Iron River, WI, 1971 Rupp Mini-Bike (only entry). The
annual “Car Show in a Pumpkin Patch” is co-sponsored by
