Finlandia University names Jason Keefer
Head Women’s Basketball Coach.
Hancock, MI. (April 15, 2011) – Jason
Keefer, who, as an assistant women’s
basketball coach at Northwood University
helped guide the Timberwolves to the 2008
NCAA Division II national tournament for the
first time in school history and a GLIAC
North division co-championship, has accepted
an offer to become the next head women’s
basketball coach at Finlandia University.
“We’re extremely excited and fortunate
that coach Keefer has accepted the
opportunity to take over our women’s
basketball program here at Finlandia,” said
Director of Athletics Chris Salani. “His
coaching strengths and experiences developed
from being a member of two winning GLIAC
programs, and in helping turn the Northwood
women’s program around to perennial GLIAC
and NCAA contenders is exactly what our
women’s program is in need of. I’m looking
to Coach Keefer to rely on his demonstrated
talents as a recruiter and coach in helping
bring exceptional student-athletes to
Finlandia, and to his coaching prowess both
as a Division II assistant and former head
high school coach to build and transform our
women’s program to regional Division III
competitiveness.”

Women's Basketball Grabs
No. 3 Spot in National Poll
by Wes Frahm, director of athletic
communications and marketing
For the second straight year, the
Michigan Tech women's basketball will enter
NCAA Tournament play with a No. 3 national
ranking. The Huskies moved up two spots from
their place at No. 5 last week as the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association
released their new USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25
Poll this week.
Michigan Tech defeated Tiffin, Hillsdale
and Ashland last week to claim the GLIAC
Tournament Championship. The Huskies were
one of only two teams in the top five to
avoid a loss, as Nos. 1, 3 and 4 stumbled.
Tech, which is spending its 10th
consecutive week in the top 10, is hosting
the NCAA Midwest Regional Tournament Friday
through Monday (March 11-14). The only other
ranked team in the region is No. 16 Quincy.
A year ago, Michigan Tech hosted the NCAA
Midwest Regional with the nation's No. 3
ranking.
The USA TODAY/ESPN Division II Top 25
Coaches Poll is selected weekly by members
of the WBCA. The next poll will be the final
national rankings following the conclusion
of the NCAA Tournament.

The always-exciting Peters Cup Playoffs begin Friday
night in the Men's Division. Two of the three opening
round series went to the mini-game last year. And with
the parity the conference has shown during the regular
season, it very well could be used again in 2011.
The Women's Division heads into its final weekend of
play with seeds #4 through 8 still not solidified. Just
four points separate the current #8
from #4. Updated playoff scenarios will be posted at
throughout the weekend.
